Mudlarks
Year started with trail-running for Rosemarie, but soon reduced to walking due to back problems.
Alec becoming more selective of weather-conditions for his runs.

Drovers Revenge

19th Feb 20128.2 miles MT (new trail race).
Venue: Broad Chalke, Wilts (near Salisbury)
Travelling time: <1hr, left home 8:45am
Weather: Frost early, beautiful sunny day, but cold wind.
Comments: Well organised, though older vets categories only added at last minute.
Course well-marked and marshalled; queues at early stiles, then lots of slippery mud, couple of deep long puddles on the 'Ox Drove' to wade along (frozen feet and legs for all).
Walked up steep hills as usual.
Coffee and home-made cakes after.
Alec went for walk instead (had back-ache).
Age-groups: Up to v60 gents and ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 1h:21m:26s (1st v60)

Pewsey Terminator

26th Feb 201211.9 miles MT
Venue: Pewsey school.
Travelling time: 1 hour 15min; left home 8:15am.
Arrived early enough to park near start at school (though they tried to divert us into the far-off 'official' carpark).
Weather: Frost early, sunny, soon warmed up.
Comments: Less mud than usual, no horrid thigh-deep muddy ditch like last year.
Same route, same steep hills to walk up.
Not many NFR - me+Caroline+'new' NFRs Debbie+Yvette.
T-shirts reserved for pre-entries, had to wait till all finished to get left-over (medium size only).
Alec came as chauffeur and photographer.
Age-groups: Up to v70 for men, v65 for ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 2:09:22 (1st lv65)

West Wight 3 Hills

9th Apr 2012Easter Monday. MT, approx 8 miles
Venue: Freshwater sports centre, IoW.
Travelling time: Left 8:30, Alec drove me to Lymington, only took 30mins.
Got 9:25am ferry to Yarmouth, plenty of time to get to start.
Cycled across to Freshwater - about 3 miles, flat route on old railway track.
Weather: Wet, gale force SW wind.
Comments: Entered at last minute, despite weather.
Same route as previously, more road than I remembered.
Had to walk quite a lot cos sciatic nerve hurting.
Not many NFR runners (but NFR was 1st lady).
Age-groups: Up to v70 for men, v65 for ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 1st v65, in 1h:22m:49s (75th overall, but no-one else in category!)
NFR ladies got 3rd team award (medal).
84 finishers.

Umborne Ug

9th Jun 2012MT, approx 6 miles; evening race
Venue: Umborne village hall, nr Colyton, Devon.
Travelling time: 1h40m to Beer (plus traffic jam on way there).
15min drive from Beer.
Weather: Dry, humid.
Comments: NFR weekend at YHA in Beer (we camped nearby at Combe View farm)
Can't run any more, but entered anyway, as a walk.
V.hilly, lots of mud (but avoidable).
Not quite last!
Age-groups: results in 5-year bands for men and ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 1h:29m:21s (1st fv65!)
92 finishers (17 NFR).

Salisbury 54321

12th Aug 2012MT, multi-distance: 10k,20k,30k,40k,50k
Venue: Salisbury fire-station.
Travelling time: 45min (lift with Lucy)
Weather: Early heavy shower, then bright,warm.
Comments: NFR runners at various distances.
Walked 20k (half marathon) with Lucy,Paul,Neil,Trevor.
Got soaked just after start - in the open round Old Sarum.
Results: Times only given for runners.
We finished in about 3h45m.
